A2 MEDIA PRELIM BRIEF

This is the practice activity we received. To choose from a music video or short film. As myself and my group will be producing a short film we have followed the prelim brief for the short film. Below is the brief and the storyboard.

The shot types we plan on using are shot reverse shots, close ups, mid shots and long shots. All of these shots will capture the facial expressions of each character and will show the conversation between the three characters.

I think the video is good however it could be better. If the script was rehearsed then I think that it would sound better as some of the script doesn't make sense. Also I think that if the video was planned properly then it would present better. There are some good parts of film. I think that the good parts of the overall film are the fading effects when the film starts and when the film ends. I also think the credits at the end of the film are good as it gives a real feel to the final product. The close up shots have been filmed well and the over the shoulder shots.

EVALUATION:

Planning is a vital part of short film process. Originally our group of 3 including myself, we had planned the film and we booked a group room in the library to film. We also created a story board the briefly stated the different types of shots that we would use. On the day of filming one member was absent so we were paired up with another person. Towards the start of filming all members of both groups were present so we ended up forming a big group of 6. In terms of group work we all worked well together however there were some times where one person didn't have anything to do. This is because there were too many people in the group which wasn't necessary. However we had to make do with the circumstances. One member of the group filmed while myself and another member were in charge of sound. The remaining three members where the actors. We all managed to direct together stating where we though each person should be positioned and speaking up if we thought someone wasn't acting correctly according to the instruction we gave. As we altered some of the script to make it our own. The editing was done by one member of the group with the remaining 5 of us watching. The start and end in terms of fading start up screen and credits was done by me.
In terms of strengths and weaknesses, I believe that our strength was managing to work together to create a decent version of 'The Breakfast Club' scene. We all contributed in the process of the film whether it be acting, filming, directing, editing, or sound.
I believe that our weakness was that we took far too long filming as the script wasn't properly or fluently rehearsed which made us stop filming a number of times to look at the script.

TARGETS TO IMPROVE
* Make sure that the script is properly rehearsed even if I'm not the one acting, this will save time next time

*Make sure that my group is here on time in order to avoid confusion and in order to make sure that the group doesn't expand

*Make sure that everyone in the group has a part in editing the final film as there should be an equal contributed effort

*Make sure that we use a variety of shots to make the short film better
