Ideas for a short film

IDEA 1

GENRE: Thriller

SYNOPSIS + WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT: The structure of this short film will be linear narrative. In this film there will be a main character who thinks that they are being followed or stalked by someone as they think that they can hear noises behind them. They are constantly looking back as they are conscious that they are being watched, however there is nobody there. The point of this film is to highlight that people in general subconsciously think that someone is there when they are alone when in fact it is their mind making them believe that. What makes it different is that there won’t actually be a stalker in the end, whereas in some films there is someone.

AUDIENCE: The audience of this film will be teens aged 14+

SIMILAR/COMPARABLE FILM EXAMPLE: A film that I can compare my idea is to ‘Single White Woman’ in this film it happens to be that the main character knows her stalker and doesn’t know what she has got herself into as she is the innocent party by allowing someone to rent a flat with her. Little does she know, her flatmate isn't who she claims to be. In this film she finds out that she has a stalker whereas with mine the person doesn't even have a stalker, they just think they do. Another film that I can compare my idea to the film ‘Scream’ the main character is being stalked by phone calls and having people closest to them killed in front of their very eyes. All these films follow a similar theme of a ‘stalker’ but in mine there is shown to be a person acting as if they are being stalked.

LOGISTICS AND FEASIBILITY: The location of this film would be based in East London on normal back streets where people live or walk on to get to their home or the local supermarket. The time that this would be shot would be late at night to add more suspense to the film. The props would have to include a lot of lighting so that the people can be seen when filming in the evening when it tends to get quite dark. The actors for the film would be a male character as male characters are portrayed t be less scared of walking alone. This is how I want my film to stand out from other’s where the main character would normally be a female.

IDEA 2

GENRE: Drama

SYNOPSIS + WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT: The idea for this short film is based on discrimination. I want to highlight what it is like to live in this society where people are of different cultures and races and how they are discriminated against in certain ways. For example, there could be someone who is discriminated against because of the colour of their skin and they may not fit in in an environment where people are all the same race. Or it could be if someone wears certain clothes that they are seen as an ‘extremist’ or a ‘goth’ or an ‘emo’ and how they are portrayed to be a negative person in today’s society.

AUDIENCE: The audience for this is 16+ as I think this is a broader issue which affects many people in different ways

SIMILAR/COMPARABLE FILM EXAMPLE: A similar film is ‘Shoot on sight’ in this film it is very clear that being a different religion is a big deal. The fact that the man is Muslim and he is dressed in Islamic clothes he is said to be a terrorist when he isn't and is wrongfully shot.

LOGISTICS AND FEASIBILITY: The location of this film will be in a very busy place at the time of rush hour as there are many people from all walks of life. This is helpful as it will show how someone can stand out from the crowd. I would have a main character who is of a different religion or race to play the main role.

IDEA 3

GENRE: Drama

SYNOPSIS + WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT: My third idea for a short film is someone who has had a serious accident and there life flashes before their eyes. The structure of this film will be retrospective. All the major events in her life will flash before her eyes and the things she wanted to do she didn’t do and I want to show that life is too short as there were many things she left unsaid. What makes it different is that there are many people who will come up with the same idea of possibly having someone’s life flash before their eyes however in this film I want to make sure I include all the aspects that people may not include for example showing parts of her life that she regrets. And regretting an action she did or didn’t take towards a particular thing/person.

AUDIENCE: Audience of this would be 18+

SIMILAR/COMPARABLE FILM EXAMPLE: A similar film is ‘Devil’ in one part of this film the storyline goes back into the past to tell the viewers what happened to a man who is now trapped in a lift with someone who is disguised as an old lady but is actually the Devil.

LOGISTICS AND FEASIBILITY: The location of this film will be set in a very dark place with an evening scene. Preferably the weather should be quite windy and rainy to create that cold effect. The props would be a knife if I chose to have the main character stabbed. I would have my character to be a girl who is dressed normally and who does not act suspicious so her murder is a real mystery. The location of this would be in a posh area or up London where you wouldn't think of such crimes to occur.
